Neelu, our pet lovebird, was a free spirit. He loved to fly
around the house. He hated to be in his cage. He would rather be free. He liked
to land on our shoulders and peck at our neckbeads. One day, someone accidentally
left the back door open while Neelu was outside his cage. Neelu, ever the little opportunist, flew out. He was
filled with joy as he soared and swooped in the open air of his new freedom. He flew next door and landed in a tree at the Montessori school. We
called him, “NEELU! NEELU!” but he was unmoved by our desperate cries, begging
him to return. He flew away and we never saw him again. I am also a free spirit and can't be kept in a cage. I loved Neelu, but I understood when he had to go.
